Hello Friends, Just returned home from a safari in Zimbabwe, prime target was elephant mixed with some plains game.
Had a great time, took some nice animals. I hunted with a PH for a third time. I hunted the same area as I did last year.
I killed this elephant on the 2nd night in the same area as last year. His tusks are a little smaller but they have been broomed down quite a bit. He’s an older bull; the larger tusk weighs around 40 lbs. It was around 10:30 PM when we spotted him and made a stalk.
When we approached closer we lost sight of them. Then got a little closer, we could hear the elephants eating.
We finally snuck to with in 40 yards, I could see him now and the PH said to shoot him. I put one on his shoulder and the PH did the same. The elephant turned to run back into the trees and I put another one on his opposite shoulder.
He now has 3 shots to his boiler room; we followed up with some anchoring shots on the hip bone. He made it to the edge of the trees where we finally killed him. It was quite an exciting 15 seconds.
He fell perfectly; normally they fall on their side. Once again the villagers came out to get their share of meat. It's quite a site.
This was a rainy season hunt, so the weather wasn’t as nice as it is around July through October. The grass is a lot taller and the brush is much thicker and greener. It was very humid and hot from 10 am to 5 pm.
The moment we were done taking pictures of the elephant it rained 7 inches.
Glad to be back home but had a very enjoyable time. Africa is a wonderful place to hunt.
