South Dakota Prairie Dog Hunting

South Dakota Prairie Dogs. Bring Plenty of Shells.

If you want to join the "Red Mist Club", or do not know what the club is all about, come hunt Prairie Dogs in South Dakota.  The rolling plains hold thousands of dog towns and the action can be fast and furious.  A normal day would be leaving the lodge soon after daylight and setting up with a shooting bench.  Transportation will be provided.  Each person will be designated their own town and they will shoot it out until it is time to be moved to a new area.  A sack lunch will be offered and after a quick break, the action will start again. The day will end a few hours before supper time or when you run out of ammo.  Then, it's back to the lodge for a shower and a good nights rest.  We have a full kitchen and grill if you would like to cook your own supper otherwise, a nice steak house and lounge is less than 10 minutes away.

Gun Choice

You can use any kind of weapon.  Most people bring a .22 or .17 HMR and few other rifles that are bigger.  More of the most popular rifles are the flat shooting .223's and 22-250's.  You can use full metal jackets or soft points but ballistic tips and hollow points create the most damage.  Some of the shots will be over 300 yards but a few will be under 50.  Do not forget to bring extra ammo because some days you will shoot well over 500 rounds.  You will be required to stay in your designated area until the guide moves you for safety reasons.
